between tumblr being found guilty of moderating lgbtq content unequally during the 2018 ban in court and @ sorryforpartyrocking being nuked for suggesting one of tumblr staff may have investment in defending terfs to now many different trans women having their text posts and selfies being flagged as mature without the opportunity to appeal in any meaningful way (one of which was nuked herself)… it’s very. hmmmm. it’s a bad look. as if staff wasn’t already on thin ice for refusing to engage in any effective way with hate speech. “queerest space on the internet” my ass

EDIT: If you derail this for the purposes of intracommunity discourse, (yes that includes “q slur discourse”) you deserve whatever consequences you receive. This post isn’t about you. It’s about trans women.

Phenomenal news. Just what the people ordered.

Were the “Moms for Liberty” prosecuted for theft?

I did a little digging out of curiosity, and yes, this did happen: https://www.truthorfiction.com/moms-for-liberty-san-diego-library-protest/

If the people “protesting” refused to return their library books for any reason, late fees would be applied and eventually the debt would be taken over by the San Diego Office of the City Treasurer, which offers penalties for non-payment found here: https://www.sandiego.gov/treasurer/delinquent/nonpayment

Litigation is on this list, but probably in a civil rather than a criminal court. I imagine one could charge the “protestors” with “willful obstruction of state representatives in the course of executing their sworn duties,” especially since the ding-a-lings confessed to holding the books hostage on purpose for a political purpose in an email, but I couldn’t find any evidence of specific criminal charges relating to refusal to return library materials. Looks like the most likely response by state officials would be to send them to collections or dock their tax return for the owed amount.

Someone really needs to sit these conservative types down and explain the Streisand Effect to them though. $15,000 will buy a LOT of queer books.

I like the “reluctant dad” trope as much as anyone, but I want to see men who actively want to be dads as well. Active, open desire for children and taking part of the childcare process shouldn’t be gendered, for everyone’s sakes. Gay men, trans men, single men—they all should feel comfortable expressing interest in becoming a parent, especially with regards to babies—infant care is the most heavily gendered kind of childcare.

I know this isn’t the sort of thing that a lot of people on tumblr are going to RELATE to, but I think it’s an important concept to consider. Childcare will be healthier for everyone involved—parents, children, people who do or don’t want to be parents—if we remove the gender association.
